  1. A matter of life and death – recovery in East Ayrshire

Comments Off on A matter of life and death – recovery in East Ayrshire

Over the last year we have, tragically, seen an increase in drug related deaths, alcohol related deaths, and suicides across East Ayrshire. These are not just numbers, these are family members, friends and our residents. These devastating events are having a truly significant toll on many people.

Recovery Enterprises Scotland and Someone Else’s Addiction are hosting a community event to demonstrate each of those lives matter; highlighting the impact on family, friends and communities.

The aim of this event is to consider what works, what’s not working, and what can be done to reduce the risk, increase recovery opportunities and inclusive support; whilst recognising the stigma, inequalities and discrimination preventing individuals and families accessing support.

This is an approach requiring collective efforts; therefore, this event is open to a wide range of stakeholders.

This event will take a conversation café approach where key themes will be highlighted to help shape a series of discussions.

The overall objective is to gather valuable feedback that can be shared within a range of strategic groups to consider approaches inclusive of all community members and aligning resources to reducing risk, increasing support and enhancing opportunities.

We are delighted and honoured that Professor Catriona Matheson will deliver the key note speech. Professor Matheson was recently announced as the new chair of a special taskforce set up to tackle the rising number of drug deaths in Scotland.
